Coffee roasting “cooks” the coffee beans to desired tastes. The length of time in the roaster varies from about 12 minutes to 30 minutes. Coffee roasting is an art that requires skill and quality equipment.
A typical roasting machine is heated with propane gas and has an electrically-driven drum. The Roast Master carefully considers each batch’s time in the roaster and the temperature of the roaster. A good Roast Master also controls the smell and appearance of the Kona coffee beans and can distinguish the level of doneness by the distinct popping sounds the Kona coffee beans make while in the roaster.
